What is trichology?

Trichology is a science; it is treated as the science of the hair and scalp. More specifically, it is diagnosing and treating problems of the hair and scalp.

Trichologists are paramedical professionals specialising in the study of hair and scalp conditions.

The Trichologist

 Trichology deals with the study of the hair and scalp and the problems associated with them. A trichologist uses the knowledge obtained from such study to advise and treat people with problems of the hair and scalp. These problems include hair loss, the different types of baldness, scaling conditions, oily scalp problems and hair breakage or damage.

 Trichologists gain their qualifications by successfully completing the trichology certification course with the International Association of Trichologists or selected tertiary colleges.

Only members of the International Association may use the initials I.A.T after their name once the associations criteria has been met.

The course was developed at the University of Southern California in 1974-75.
